This change reflects the purpose that has guided our organisation in the UK for more than 140 years: doing good by making a positive difference in the lives of the people and communities we serve. We believe The Do Good Charity expresses more clearly who we are and what we do, and marks an important step in our evolution to provide more support to more people.

Why are we changing the name?
For a very simple reason: we want our name to explain our purpose.
For more than 450 years our mission has been to be of help to people in need. The phrase ‘Do Good’ captures that purpose in plain English. It is a statement of what we do but also an invitation. It is easier for people to understand, easier to remember, and gives us a clearer way to talk about who we are and why we exist.
The intention is not to become a different organisation, but to express our existing mission more clearly.

What will change?
You will notice:
- A new trading name: The Do Good Charity.
- Updated branding and visual identity.
- A new website address and email addresses.
- Updated communications materials and publications with our logo.
What will not be changing?
- The support we provide, our values, our mission and our commitment to the people we serve will remain unchanged.
- Our current services and projects remain.
- Our legal name - this remains Saint John of God Hospitaller Services.

The timing of our rebrand and new trading name
The new name supports our long-term strategy and increases awareness of the work we do. This change is about communicating our mission more clearly, not changing our mission. .
Our mission remains constant. We remain ambitious for the people we support, and we hold on to the really good things we already do, but the world around us is changing, with new technologies and new ways of being of help.
We have a 146-year history of delivering innovative services and using the technologies of the day to be of most help. Our new strategy and our new trading name is the nest step in this evolution that helps to be more transparent about our purpose; reach more people, and be of more help both directly and through other organisations, volunteers, friends and funders.

When will this happen?
The public launch of The Do Good Charity will take place on 15 September 2026.
From that date, you will begin to see our new name, branding, website and communications. A transition period will continue until March 2027 as materials are updated across the organisation.

Why Do Good?
We talk about doing good a lot! We have ‘Do Good Day’; John of God said, “Doing good does you good”; we run recruitment campaigns through ‘Good Work’; we have built the ‘Goodness Metric’ and we have ‘The Good Shepherd’ as part of our family. ‘Good’ provides a connection in all that we do.

Why have we chosen this name?
Because it says what we do.
When people hear ‘The Do Good Charity’, they immediately understand something about our purpose. It's clear, it's memorable and most importantly, it reflects what colleagues across the organisation do every day.
It also creates an opportunity for more people to recognise the impact that we make every day.

Are you still the same charity?
Yes. We remain the same organisation with the same charity registration number and with the same staff, trustees, services, values and commitment to the people we support.
Only the public-facing name we use is changing. Our legal name remains Saint John of God Hospitaller Services Limited.

Have your governance or leadership arrangements changed?
No. The charity continues to be governed by the same board of trustees. This is a change of trading name, not a change of ownership, governance or organisational structure.

Will my donation still go to the same charity?
Yes. Your donation will continue to support the same registered charity. Our legal name, charity registration and organisational purpose are not changing; only the public-facing trading name is changing.

How will this name change help the people you support?
The new name will help more people understand who we are, what we do and why our work matters. By making our purpose clearer, we hope to reach more people who may benefit from our services and encourage more people to support our work through donations, volunteering and partnership.

Will this increase fundraising costs?
No, this won’t increase fundraising costs. The rebrand has been planned carefully with costs managed through the annual marketing budget.

Have donor funds been used for this?
No, donors’ gifts go as specified at the point of giving and are separate from everyday running costs. Costs have been met from savings made from the existing marketing budget.

For trusts, foundations and other funders

Do we need to amend our grant agreement?
In most cases, we would not expect grant agreements to need amendment because the legal name of the charity remains the same. However, we recognise that different funders have different requirements, and we are happy to provide confirmation of the change or discuss any specific wording you may need for your records.

Will funded projects be affected?
No. Funded projects will continue as agreed. The change of trading name does not alter our commitments, delivery arrangements or reporting obligations for funded work.

Will reporting arrangements change?
No. We will continue to meet existing reporting requirements and provide information in the way agreed with each funder. Our reports and communications may show our new trading name and branding after launch, but the substance of reporting arrangements will remain unchanged unless otherwise agreed.

Do we need to update our records?
You may wish to update your records to show our new trading name, The Do Good Charity, from 15 September 2026. Our legal name and registered charity details remain unchanged. We can provide confirmation of these details if required.

Are existing grants and funding agreements still valid?
Yes. Existing grants and funding agreements remain valid. The change to The Do Good Charity is a change of trading name only and does not change the legal organisation that entered into those agreements.
